A wedding breakfast is technically your first meal as husband & spouse, usually following a morning wedding. Sometimes it is an casual event before the actual wedding, with perhaps the bride & her bridesmaids, brother & sisters etc. Or it could be a group event with the whole wedding party before everyone gets prepared (for an afternoon/evening wedding).

But historically, it is a light meal after a morning wedding (although often coincides with brunch/lunch time than 'breakfast'). Tea parties are very in-style at the moment, as are light buffets of finger-food & snacks, although by no means is a full sit-down meal out of bounds for a wedding breakfast.

The type of food you serve at your wedding breakfast depends by yourself tastes, the general theme of your wedding, your venue & your budget. Some popular ideas for contemporary weddings include:

After the main meal of your wedding comes speeches & the cutting of the cake. There's some brilliant ideas for wedding desserts & cakes at the moment, from traditional tiers to cupcakes, cheesecake & make-your-own ice cream bars.

Think about whether you need a sit down meal or a buffet, an inside venue or an outdoor, a light meal (followed by a proper three work dinner later) or to make your wedding breakfast the main meal of the reception. In the event you choose to have a little ceremony followed by a bigger reception later, you may need to keep your wedding breakfast intimate & simple.

Finally, think about your wedding dress. When trying on wedding dresses, practice sitting down, moving & dancing so that you are confident you will be comfortable all day. Very fitted wedding gowns, or those with corset-style bodices can be difficult to sit in, or tight to eat anything! However stunning you look, you also need to be positive that you will enjoy your day without feeling like you are constricted.

Stick to your budget, be guided by your theme & don't forget about accommodating for guests with allergies/dietary requirements. With all the adrenaline & activity of your wedding day, you might also forget to eat & drink so do try to take a moment to enjoy your brilliant food! If you are drinking alcohol, a nice suggestion is to alternate each glass with a soft-drink or water - all the nerves & excitement of your wedding can often heighten the affects of alcohol before you know it!

As with all wedding designs, try not to over-think or stress about decisions. Go along with your instincts, your budget & what suits your character as a couple. & bon appetit!
